Tiger Woods once ruled the top of the OWGR list. He still has the record of being on No. 1 for the longest time. But who would believe that now. The 48-year-old has been suffering invariably. Especially after his life-altering car accident in 2021. However, 2024 has only been worse for him. The 82X PGA Tour had thought of making a comeback this year.
He started off with the Genesis Invitational. But little did he know, that not just his performance, but it will any way be halted. After a disappointing opening round of 1-under, he went down with fever, and had to withdraw from it. And ever since, he has been trying hard to make his way back in. But that seems impossible.
Tiger Woods drops out of the 2024 Hero World Challenge
Tiger Woods broke the record by making the cut at the Masters for 24 consecutive years. However, he finished at the bottom of the leaderboard. Not just that, he even ended up missing cuts in the remaining three Majors, the only events he appeared in. Woods was last seen at the Open Championship in July. After months of break, he was expected to finally make a comeback in December, but as it turns out, that too will not be possible.
Tiger Woods recently underwent his fifth back surgery, a microdiscectomy, to address a herniated disc causing nerve pain. The procedure aimed to alleviate discomfort that had persisted since December 2023. While his recovery timeline remains uncertain, Woods has opted out of competitive play, including the Hero World Challenge, to focus on rehabilitation.
This surgery adds to a long history of injuries that have impacted his career, highlighting ongoing challenges with maintaining physical health. Fans and analysts are eager to see how this affects his return to professional golf.

Tiger Woods underwent his sixth back surgery in September 2024, a microdecompression procedure to address nerve impingement in his lumbar spine. Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi performed the surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida.
This operation aimed to alleviate the back spasms and pain that had plagued Woods throughout the 2024 season. Woods expressed optimism about his recovery, hoping to return to normal activities, including golf, after rehabilitation.
However, he might return for the PNC Championship just for Charlie Woods. Do you think he will be able to make it? Let us know in the comments section below!
