Scottie Scheffler and Rory Mcllroy Decisive Victory Makes LIV Golf Change Their Stance on Competing Against PGA Tour Players

The much awaited Showdown took place on December 17 at the Shadow Creek Golf Ckub. LIV Golf did a lot of marketing of the event both online and offline, but PGA Tour on the other hand remained silent, and did no promotions whatsoever.

Assumptions were that Jay Monahan was not interested in any kind of merger with the Breakaway league. However, as the show concluded, it was the PGA Tour the shined. Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy defeated Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. After the win however, LIV Golf had completely changed their stance.

LIV Golf became neutral after PGA Tour took away the trophy

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler defeated Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in both formats. They first triumphed in the four-ball match, winning 3 and 2, before securing a narrow 1-up victory in the foursomes.

McIlroy was 1-up over DeChambeau through 4 holes, while Scheffler was 2-up on Koepka with just 2 holes remaining, earning a crucial half point for the PGA Tour and sealing the overall win. However, the outcome seems to have sparked a shift in the LIV Golf landscape.

Before the tournament began, all the LIV Golf players rallied behind Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. Even a few hours before the match was set to begin, RangeGoats GC Captain Talor Gooch was asked who he thinks would win, and without even consideration he picked the LIV members.

However, once Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy secured their victory, the LIV contingent adopted a more neutral stance. The official LIV Golf League Instagram account posted a picture of all four golfers on the course after the match, with the caption: “The game of golf, and its fans, won tonight 🙌.” In other words, they emphasized that golf as a whole was the real winner.

After so much marketing becoming neutral only brings the reputation of the league under threat and well that is what exactly happened. The fans did not like the change of stance, and some of them even called them ‘sore losers’. What do you think about the tables turning? Let us know in the comments section below!
