The PGA Tour has been on a mission to make its commercialisation better. To do so, they have been implementing new rules that are to be set in motion from the 2026 season. Some of the latest decisions that they are to vote upon are a reduction in field sizes, the elimination of 10 Korn Ferry Tour graduate cards, a reduction in full PGA Tour cards from 125 to 100, the elimination of the two sponsor exemption spots, and the elimination of two Monday qualifying spots.
However, what caused a lot of drama was the reduction of the Monday qualifiers. To begin with, the field sizes of the regular PGA Tour events will come down to 144 from the 156-size field. Some of them might go as down as 120 as well. But, this will not apply to the signature events. Additionally, this change will bring about fewer cards for the PGA Tour members when the season comes to an end.
The proposal that has been mailed also states that the number of exemption cards by the end of the season, which was earlier 125, will be only 100 and that is not even close to the passing of the elimination card. Just two years ago, the Korn Ferry Tour (KFT) offered 50 PGA Tour cards: 25 were awarded during the regular season and another 25 at the KFT Finals.
The Finals featured players who finished outside the top 125 on the PGA Tour, along with those ranked 26th to 75th in KFT points. However, the final series that allowed these two groups to compete for the final 25 cards was eliminated.
