Lexi Thompson Makes History as the Seventh Woman to Compete in the Shriners Children’s Open

Lexi Thompson has been an exceptional golfer since she was seven years old! She announced retiring from the full-time schedule of the LPGA Tour after completing the 2024 season. But she sure has brought in several records in her time playing golf.

One such incident was at the PGA Tour men’s even the Shriners Children’s Open last year. She appeared in the tournament to inspire people.”[In a] male-dominated sport, I want to show that anything is possible and that I am following my dreams. I have done it since I was five years old, [been in the] spotlight since I was 12. You just have to block out everything, believe in yourself, and go after what you want,” said Thompson.

She played alongside Kevin Roy and Trevor Werbylo being only the seventh woman golfer to have grabbed the opportunity. She would inspire no matter how she played. Nonetheless, the American professional wanted to make the cut, but she could not.

Thompson rebounded impressively from her opening-round score of 73, bringing her to as low as 4 under par during her second round, which put her at 2 under for the tournament. However, bogeys on holes 5 and 8, two of her last five holes, hindered her progress. She ultimately finished with a 2-under 69, marking only the second time a woman has scored below 70 in PGA TOUR history, following Michelle Wie West’s 68 in the second round of the 2006 Sony Open.

Unfortunately, she could not make it to the weekend rounds. However, she did manage to write history with the two rounds.
