The Grant Thornton Invitational is indeed a rather special event. It was since last year that the event changed into a team play. One team consists of two members – one LPGA Tour Pro and another PGA Tour Pro. The teams have been the same over the years, except for some.
Well, the Rolex No. 1 Nelly Korda is one such player who had a partner swap. Last year, she was paired with Tony Finau, and they both carded a 16-under, finishing at the T4, with Denny McCarthy, and Megan Khang. This year, she is teeing off with Daniel Berger.
The American golfer replaced Tony Finau, who was initially scheduled to join Korda in the mixed-field event. However, Finau withdrew from the competition because of an injury, and Berger joined the field. This makes the team a comparatively newer bond for the field.
But well, as it turns out, they have been getting to know each other. At least that is what the press conference on Saturday revealed.
Nelly Korda shares a hilarious moment with Daniel Berger
Two rounds of the 2024 Grant Thornton Invitational are already over. For the new team, they have not been doing pretty well. They are tied for the twelfth position with Sahith Theegala and Allisen Corpuz as they enter the final round. Regardless, the duo seemed to be having fun with each other at the Tiburon Golf Club.
Golf.com took to their official D account and shared snippets of their interview from the post round presser on Sunday. It was a rather fun bit, and they captioned it, “Nelly Korda and Daniel Berger have learned a thing or two about each other this week at the Grant Thornton Invitational ”. I
n the interview, they were asked to reveal something fun that they have learnt about each other. Nelly Korda began by saying, “He chirped my warm up. He said, “So you don’t hit a shot for like thirty minutes before your first tee?” And I’m like yeah, I don’t.”
This was then taken up by a fun revelation by Daniel Berger who made the conversation all the funnier. There conversation went like:
“What I found out is that she likes the snow and she likes…what is it? Sled dogging?” He said.
“No, dog sledding,” Korda corrected him.
“She’s going dog sledding,” Berger said, sparking laughter from everyone present.
And finally, jokingly Nelly Korda also added how he has been trying to reach his goal of becoming 185, which means he will be having a lot of protein shakes and Peanut butter.
As it turns out, they are slowly unfolding their bond, and who knows might come back together for redemption next year. What are your thoughts on the newly formed team? Let us know in the comments section below!
