Brooke Henderson Returns To LPGA Action Despite Recent Eye Surgery

Brooke Henderson, one of the LPGA Tour’s most consistent stars, is a familiar face at the CME Group Tour Championship, held annually at Tiburón Golf Club. This year, however, her journey to the season finale had a unique twist.

Henderson disclosed to Sportsnet that she underwent a minor surgical procedure on her right eye earlier in the fall. Following the procedure, she took an extended two-month break from competition to recover and prepare for the championship.

“It’s been healing well,” said Henderson with her characteristic optimism during an interview in Naples, Florida. Despite the unusual circumstances, she enters the tournament as one of the top 60 players in the Race to CME Globe standings.

The 2024 edition of the CME Group Tour Championship boasts an $11 million total purse, including a record-breaking $4 million for the winner—the largest first-place prize in women’s golf history. Henderson is eager to finish her season strong at this marquee event.

She entered the CME Group Tour Championship on the fourteenth rank. This was possible because of her eight top-10 finishes in the first eight appearances that she made this season. Despite having a great start to the year, she has stated that the last eleven months went a little crazy.

To begin with, she started wearing spectacules on the course so that she could see the landing of the ball, which earlier she could not. Her sister and caddie told her where it landed. However, the implementation brought about a great change in her gameplay.

“It was kind of interesting year,” Henderson said. “I started off the year really well. I had a lot of really great top finishes and was in contention a lot, which felt really nice and then kind of cooled off there in the summer months, which was a bit unfortunate, but I feel like I’m on my way back.”
