“All is well that ends well” seems to have worked out for Scottie Scheffler. The American professional began the opening round of the Tour Championship with a bogey but closed it with a 586-yard birdie. With an already 10-under advantage, he was at a whopping seven-stroke lead ahead of Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa.
While Scheffler’s history with the East Lake has not been one to remember, this year might be different for him. While he loses the vast difference in strokes, the World No. 1 is still at a favorable lead.
Scottie Scheffler ends another round with a birdie
On Friday at Atlanta, Scottie Scheffler had a better opening than the first round. After carding two even pars, he ended up with an exceptional par-4 birdie which went to 409 yards. He went completely bogey-free for the entire round, except for the disappointing one on the 13th hole.
This time, the round had six birdies for Scheffler, of course ending with one of them. But well, the Friday round made him understand the significance of his advantage due to the format. While the two players tied for No. 2 on Thursday did their best, Scheffler is left only at a four-stroke lead.
Although Scottie Scheffler is on the leaderboard, Collin Morikawa had a better round on Friday. While the World No. 1 settled for a 5-under 66, the latter carded a whopping nine birdies, with just one bogey on the back nine. His score was an impressive 9-under.
On the other hand, Xander Schauffele has dropped down one rank on the leaderboard to finish with a solo third position on Friday. The World No. 1 went completely bogey-free and settled for a 7-under finishing the round with a 569 yards long birdie!
Sahith Theegala, Wyndham Clark, and Adam Scott remain tied for the fourth position with a total score of 12-under, nine strokes behind Scottie Scheffler. Stay tuned to find out what the Saturday round has in store for the top 30 players.
