The 16th edition of the Presidents Cup is set to kickstart in a few days. This time, it will be hosted at the Royal Montreal Golf Club from September 24 to September 29. The US Team has been dominating the series, giving just one win and one draw to the International team. This year too, just like the last edition the American Team will be led by Jim Furyk.
The captain gets to pick six players of his choice to fill up the spots on the team. Well, among them the captain chose Sahith Theegala as one of the players. He will be making it to the event for the first time, and there is no doubt as to why he was chosen. The 26-year-old phenom has appeared in 25 events so far and has managed to bag five top-5 finishes so far. Well, making his debut is going to be a milestone in his career.
Sahith Theegala expresses excitement for Montreal
The official Instagram account of the PGA Tour took to its wall a few hours ago and shared snippets from an interview with Sahith Theegala. It has only been four years since he made his debut on the PGA Tour and thus, has not been a part of the team fight. That, out of everything else is what excites him all the more. Instead of competing against them, they will be planning a strategy together to put up a good game.
“I’m just excited to spend time with the guys in a different setting. So many times, well pretty much everyone you just want to beat those guys. But this is going to be the one week of the year where you’re on the same team as them. And man, it’s just going to be such a cool atmosphere and environment and I’m just going to soak it all in,” he said.
However, it is not all excitement that he is feeling. Theegala has the pressure to come up great to make a name for himself. He already did, finishing as the second runner-up at the Tour Championship, however, he is a little nervous too. “Don’t know how I’m going to do, but like I said, my game feels great and I’m ready for the challenge,” added the American professional.
But, he is pretty sure that he is in the best form at the moment and is ready to put his best game forward. Do you think Theegala’s presence will bag the tenth victory in a row for Team USA? Let us know in the comments section!
