Tiger Woods has most definitely cemented himself as an undisputed legend in golf. Similarly, rapper Marshall Mathers has also distinguished himself in the hip-hop world, as in Tiger Woods.
Being one of the only few persons of color in the sport, Woods has indeed made it big in the field, similar to Eminem being one of the few legendary white rappers in a mostly African-American-dominated field.
Em never fails to recognize the legends and contemporaries in various other fields and always offers them their due flowers. The Godzilla rapper is known for including niche references to several sports and sporting legends in his rap verses, which is his way of offering respect to them. He also did so for Tiger Woods through one of his verses on the song GOAT.
Eminem can be seen referencing Woods as the ‘Greatest of All Time’ in golf and the sporting world in general. The song GOAT was an attempt for Eminem to reassert himself in the industry while constantly being viewed as inferior to his contemporaries, such as 50 Cent and Kanye West. Noting Tiger’s struggle as a relentless golfer inspired the verses of this song.
One of the song’s verses says, And I love when they say that Tiger Woods is s**t. Isn’t it ironic that the best rapper’s white and the best golfer’s black?” Indeed, the verse well sums up Eminem’s trying to infer how the 82 PGA winner tried asserting his name in a sport dominated by White people.
Though this song was never released, it proves that Em watches and appreciates golf as much as the fans do. As the saying goes, ‘game recognizes game,’ Eminem did not fail to give the due flowers to Tiger Woods as one of the ‘Greatest of All Times’ in the golfing world.
