2024 World Wide Technology Championship: Meet the Five PGA Tour Pros Playing in Their Home Ground

The PGA Tour has reached Mexico for the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship. The tournament began in 2007 and is held at Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal golf course within the Diamante Cabo San Lucas resort.

The 2024 World Wide Technology Championship will feature four rounds of stroke play, with 132 professional golfers vying for the trophy in Mexico. Among the top contenders are Cameron Young, Max Greyserman, and Lucas Glover, all ranked in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

Additionally, amateur Dylan Brack will make his PGA Tour debut, adding an exciting element to the field. It’s shaping up to be a thrilling weekend of golf. If you’re attending in person, here’s what the weather in Cabo is expected to be like over the four days of competition.

The opening round concluded a few hours ago in Cabo. Currently, Erik van Rooyen is in the lead having scored a 6-under. He went completely bogey-free after opening the Thursday round with two back-to-back bogeys.

Following him are Taylor Montgomery, and Max Greyserman at T2, just two strokes behind. However, the highlight of the season tournament is the fact that five PGA Tour are competing to clinch a win in their home ground.

Here is the list of the golfers who will be hoping to make the Mexican crowd proud by winning the 2024 WWT Championship.

1. Omar Morales

Omar Morales is one of the very few amateurs who made it to the field of the Fall Championship in Mexico. He is the highest-ranked Latin Amateur in the world and is also enjoying the 12th rank on the WAGR list for amateur golfers. He has also been playing for UCLA and is now ranked as a senior player. The Mexican golfer stands fifth in the University ranking of the PGA Tour and has the potential to climb higher if he manages to fare well at the WWT Championship. He is yet to tee off for the first round.

2. Santiago de la Fuente

Santiago De La Fuente has spent much of the year away from PGA Tour golf, focusing on completing his degree while finishing a remarkable career at the University of Houston. He capped off his collegiate journey by securing 23rd place in the 2024 PGA Tour University class, solidifying his future in professional golf. He is scheduled to tee off for the opening round in just a few hours with Omar Morales.

3. Isidro Benitez

Isidro Benitez has been showing great feats of strength in the opening round. On Thursday in Cabo, he opened the round with a beautiful eagle, which was followed by a birdie. However, he met with setbacks, after carding two bogeys through the fourteen holes that he has played so far. Nonetheless, he has kick-started the tournament with amazing momentum and is currently at the T5 position with seven other PGA Tour Pros. The crowd is hoping he completes round one with as great a momentum with which he began.

4. Raul Pereda

Raul Pereda has been having a rather disappointing 2024 season on the PGA Tour this year. The 28-year-old appeared in twenty-one events so far and made cut only in three of them. However, in all of them, he finished below the top 40 list, his best finish being at the 2024 Puerto Rico Open in March. He carded a 10-under and finished at T42. The PGA Tour Pro is hoping to get his redemption at the WWT Championship this weekend and is yet to begin teeing off.

5. Emilio Gonzalez

Last season, González made 16 cuts, earning two top-10 finishes and seven top-25s on the Korn Ferry Tour. His consistent performance led him to a 49th-place finish on the points list, ensuring he comfortably retained his status for the 2025 season. His solid year positions him well for continued success moving forward.

Do you think either of the five players will be able to make the Mexican crowd proud this season? Stay tuned to find out!
