“It’s surreal. This moment is very special,” said Nicholas Echavarria after winning his second PGA Tour event. The Colombian professional golfer last won the 2023 Puerto Rico Open, which was his only victory.
Come Sunday, Justin Thomas struggled with his putter on the back nine Sunday, managing to string together eight consecutive pars before sinking a birdie on the final hole to finish at 19-under. Greyserman also sat at 19-under as he approached the 72nd hole, but his drive found trouble on the right. He faced a 24-foot birdie attempt on No. 18, but it just missed, giving Echavarria a chance to capitalize.
He finished the round with a birdie in the eighteenth hole, winning the trophy after defeating Thomas and Greyserman by just one stroke. Well, the celebration was special, as just like all the other times, his long-time girlfriend Claudia De Antonio was there to support him.
She was also there to cheer for him. They celebrated his victory Tory together. She sat there behind the ropes, all nervous and stressed, hoping he would make the winning stroke finally. The moment Echavarria carded his winning putt, she ran towards him and hugged him, congratulating him on the accolade.
At the post-round presser, she said, “It felt like a match-play tournament between the three of them, which was exciting to see but very stressful. But at the end of the day, he got it done, and he pushed through those last three holes good.”
On Wednesday night in Japan, Nico Echavarria and his longtime girlfriend Claudia De Antonio had steak. The best steak he’s ever had. And well, on Sunday, it was time to return to the same spot. They enjoyed a celebratory meal after winning.
