The PGA Tour has reached Mississippi after a successful round of the Presidents Cup. The Sanderson Farms Championship this year is being hosted at the Country Club of Jackson in the USA, and well, the opening round had rather unexpected leaders after it concluded.

David Skinns is enjoying a three-stroke lead

David Skinns from England managed to bag the first position, entering the field on Friday with an impressive 12-under 60. Well, it was not just the best among all the other 144 players in the field, but it was also his personal best so far on the PGA Tour. He managed to go completely bogey-free, carding a total of twelve birdies in the first round.

However, despite his outstanding performance, he was still disappointed. “I’m sure I’m not going to get many. Tough not to be a little bit disappointed, but I want to just look back on how in control mentally I felt, and how I kept attacking. Wasn’t thinking about the future at all, which is kind of the thing I’m going to take away from today,” said Skinns.

If he continues to keep up with the momentum, maybe after years of perseverance, his getting into the PGA Tour will finally be worthwhile as he will be able to bag his first win. He is currently enjoying a three-shot lead over Michael Thorbjornsen.

The future is a big part of the Sanderson Farms Championship, one of eight PGA Tour events in the “FedEx Cup Fall” that determines the 125 players who keep a full card for next year. Skinns was at No. 108, and his 60 gives him a big step in the right direction.
