2024 AIG Women’s Open: 4 Amateurs make the cut

The 2024 AIG Women’s Open is in full swing! The World’s No. 1 Nelly Korda has taken a three-stroke lead ahead of Lilia Vu and Charley Hull in the 144-player field. They are competing to win the biggest portion of the $9 million purse.

While the pros are on to their own game, the fight for the Smyth Salver Award too is in motion. Previous big names to win the salver include Michelle Wie West, Amy Yang, Anna Nordqvist, Danielle Kang, Lydia Ko, Leona Maguire, and Rose Zhang, so the five competing this week will be hoping to follow in some formidable footsteps. For the 2024 edition, how many contenders are there in the field?

Five of the top amateurs were a part of the 144-player field – Chun-Wei Wu, Ela Anacona, Julia Lopez Ramirez, Lottie Woad, and Louise Rydqvist. After the Friday round, four out of the five amateurs have made the cut to qualify for the weekend. Only Wu could not, as she was left with a disappointing 9-over with a 119 finish.

However, out of the four, two of them even bagged a place in the top 11 at St. Andrews. While Rydqvist went for a bogey-free second round, carding an impressive 3-under 67, she was placed at T5 with six others. On the other hand, Woad carded a total of seven birdies in the first two rounds and is just a stroke behind her tied for the 11th position. Who do you think will take home the award this year?
