Tiger Woods has been trying utterly hard to get back into his prime form throughout the 2024 season. But as it seems, he has only been meeting with hurdles. He has anyway been playing less ever since his car accident in 2021, and this year has additionally been tougher.
He started the season by making it to the Genesis Invitational in February. He opened the event with a disappointing 72 score, and well, that was not it for the difficulties at the tournament. After the first round, he was diagnosed with fever and had to withdraw from the event ahead of the Friday round.
Just like his contract, he appeared in all the four Majors. He made a record at the Masters by making the cut, but finished at the booth of the leaderboard with another disappointing 16-over. And as for the remaining Majors, unfortunately he ended up missing the cut in all of them.
Tiger Woods was last seen teeing off at the Open Championship in July. It has been almost four months he has not played professional golf. There were speculations of him returning in December. But as it turns out, it is going to be a mix of both.
Tiger Woods to skip Hero World Challenge and play PNC Championship?
Tiger Woods had his sixth back surgery in the last ten years. In a statement on Woods’ social media, the procedure was described as a microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in the lower back. That also is referred to as a microdiscectomy, and the recovery time can be anywhere from eight to 12 weeks.
The 82X PGA Tour is fully motivated to come back only after he has recovered, and well most of his fans thought he would be able to make it for the Hero World Challenge, which is scheduled to take place from December 5 to December 8. However, on November 25, he announced that he is still in the process of recovery, and thus will not play at the event.

However, he might make a comeback solely hoping not to disappoint his son Charlie Woods. The duo have been teeing off at the PNC Championship ever since its inaugural. As reported by Golf Digest, “Despite not teeing it up at the Hero World Challenge, Tiger is expected to play in the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie. ”.
However, there has been no official confirmation yet, as he is still in the process of recovering and the family affair is scheduled to take place only two weeks from the Hero World Challenge.
