Charley Hull is off to a strong start this weekend, after bagging a T12 at the Maybank Championship in October. She is currently teeing off at the Pelican as a part of the 2024 ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge. Two rounds have already concluded and the 28-year-old seems to be entering the weekend with a great lead.
After scoring a 64 and 66 on Thursday and Friday, Charley Hull is at an accumulated score of 10-under. She is at the lead, with two strokes ahead of the Rolex No. 1 player Nelly Korda. Apart from eyeing her first win of the 2024 season, looks like there is something else that is keeping her motivated on the ground.
Charley Hull’s creative bet with her boyfriend
Like many professional golfers, it’s been a long year for Charley Hull, filled with constant travel across continents, countries, and events. Now, as the season winds down, Hull is planning a well-deserved break with her boyfriend, Gaz Beadle, a UK-based TV personality.
Speaking at The Annika on Thursday, Hull revealed that her postseason holiday has actually become a source of in-season motivation, serving as a reminder of golf’s most fundamental reward: the chance to unwind and recharge.
“I actually had a bet with my boyfriend. Every five birdies I make we have an extra day on our holiday,” Hull said Thursday with a laugh. “I was trying to make 10 birdies. Hopefully I’ll have more over the weekend and I have a two-week holiday at the end of the year.”
As for the records, Charley Hull has already managed to score a total of seven birdies in the opening round. And well, while Friday went on a little low paced, she still managed to card five birdies in the second round. She is still left to finish thirty six more holes, and well, she intends to keep the bet only getting more into her favour. While she failed to make ten birdies in one round, she sure is getting close to her target.
