Amidst Criticism From the Golfing World, Tiger Woods’ Brand Faces Competition From Off-White’s Latest Venture Into Golf

After the landmark Nike-Tiger Woods partnership ended in January 2024, the golf icon hinted at launching his own apparel line. Just weeks later, Woods introduced Sun Day Red, a premium golf brand. The collection featured a range of polos, t-shirts, hoodies, pants, and more, all reflecting Woods’ signature style and on-course aesthetic.

The designs captured the essence of his personal brand, offering golfers a chance to wear apparel inspired by one of the sport’s greatest legends. While Tiger Woods is already an established name in the golf community, Sun Day Red is not, and well from its inception there have been several backlashes about it having very expensive products for regular people to buy.

It is estimated that the products of the brand costs twice as much as high quality alternatives available in the market. They have been struggling to make sales for quite some time due to this reason. But looks like another huge storm is hovering over the 82 X PGA Tour champion’s apparel brand.

Golf pro and celebrity Paris Hilinski was recently spotted in Saudi Arabia, showcasing Off-White, the latest entrant into the golf apparel market. In the photos, shared by @hypegolf on Instagram, Hilinski wore a striking red and black polo while executing a long-range shot, along with a yellow and off-white sweater vest and a sleek black top.

The post featured the message, “Off-White is officially getting into GOLF.” Adding to the buzz, the brand has recently secured backing from the $8.5 billion company, BlueStar Alliance, in September 2024, signaling a big move into the golf world.

It will be released on December 5 this year in Miami, with a tagline that says, “All in one”.  Well even after the marketing strategy applied by their competitors, Tiger Woods once again received backlash. To begin with, a few days ago, they announced the expansion of the company by introducing women’s apparel line. A lot of fans have been demanding SDR to come up with such an outline and we Mr. T did receive appreciation for it. But as it turns out, it was not a long lasting one.

Sun Day Red only keeps launching more expensive products

Just a few days later, Tiger Woods launched a series of golf markers through his company. He called it the Half Moon series. The brand took to its official X account and wrote, “Two new limited edition Half Moon Ball Markers just arrived. Featuring the 15 stripe tiger on one side and a half moon design signifying the rising sun and launch of Sun Day Red on the other, these collectible pieces won’t last long.”

The markers are priced at $50, which is a little too much to spend for a small accessory that the players often end up losing. That is not all. The pricing of Sun Day Red products has been a controversial issue since its launch. Polos on Sun Day Red’s site start at $120 and go up to $170 and even logo-less polos are listed at $150.

Sun Day Red also has T-shirts listed for $70, shorts for $135, hoodies for $200, and hats for $40 and some of them don’t even carry the brand logo. Comparatively, you can buy Nike polos for $65. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comments section below.
